Miss Auburn Candiate: Mary Spencer Veazey

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Mentoring and inspiring younger students is something that is important to 2018 Miss Auburn candidate Mary Spencer Veazey. Veazey, a junior from Tifton, Georgia majoring in Public Relations, says she enjoys reaching out to newer and international students and hopes those skills will prepare her to be Miss Auburn.

“Building those relationships with those freshman has really made an impact,” says Veazey, “and so I love hanging out with freshman on Auburn’s campus.”

Veazey is running on the sixth part of the Auburn Creed which states: “I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men and mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all.”

“I’ve already started living on that part without even realizing it,” said Veazey, “so I felt like that was the best way to tie it in and to use as my platform.”

Veazey says she wants to get to know others and attend different campus organizations; helping students to stay involved and loved during their time at Auburn.

“What I want to do is be someone who really goes to organizations and gets to know the people there,” said Veazey, “and figuring out how we can continue to make them feel involved and loved at Auburn.”

Veazey wants to emphasize having conversations with students versus just serving as the University hostess, so that she can truly know the people she is serving.

“How can you really be a good hostess if you don’t know the people you’re serving,” said Veazey, “so I really want to be somebody that goes to people and gets to know them on Auburn’s campus.”

Veazey says her love for getting to know students on Auburn’s campus, especially younger students, is what really sets her apart from the other four Miss Auburn candidates.

“I think for me my love for people and my love for getting to know people, the freshman especially, sets me apart,” said Veazey. "I’ve really invested a lot of time in freshman in my sorority and in different things.”
