Auburn defeats in-state rival UAB

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - The Tigers hold off UAB 85-80 at home Saturday to move to 8-1 on the season. 

Auburn held the lead throughout the game but it came down to the last minutes, with UAB nearly making a come back.

Auburn started off strong, scoring in the first 17 seconds of the game and pulled away with a 15 point lead by the 7 minute and 7-second mark of the first half. 

The Blazers came out in the second half challenging Auburn pulling to within two scores of the Tigers by the end of the game. 

Bryce Brown led Auburn in scoring with 27 followed by Jared Harper with 21 points. Anfernee McLemore led in rebounds with nine.

With Mustapha Heron being held out with a back injury, his teammates stepped up to fill the void. 

"You don't have to have an S on your chest but you better represent that AU on your uniform," Coach Bruce Pearl said in the post-game press conference.

The Tigers will continue play on Saturday, Dec. 16 against Middle Tennessee State. The game will be aired on the SEC Network.
