Auburn, Ala. (EETV) – Auburn University students had the opportunity to explore future career paths and internships in the fashion industry during an internship panel hosted by the Apparel Merchandising and Design Association on Tuesday, November 3.
The panel featured Allison Schneider, an industry professional with Ross, who shared her experiences working in fashion merchandising and design. Students learned about the responsibilities of working across different departments, including product development, marketing, graphic design, and buying.
Schneider also discussed her previous experience with Vissla and Sisstr, where she collaborated with men's and women's teams, assisted designers with technical sketches, conducted field research, and helped coordinate promotional events and photoshoots.
In addition to discussing professional experiences, the presentation highlighted potential career opportunities at Ross. Available positions included assistant buyer and assistant planner roles, with internship and full-time opportunities in locations such as New York and Los Angeles.
After the industry presentation, students joined an additional internship panel featuring merchandising and design students. The discussion allowed attendees to ask questions and gain firsthand insight into navigating internships and preparing for careers after graduation with other students.
The event provided Auburn students with valuable professional connections and a closer look at opportunities within the fashion industry.
When asked what the qualifications to enter one of these internship programs were, her response was, “It’s not A, B, and C; we wanna see what makes you stand out among 100 applicants. What do you have that others don’t?”
Some students had the chance to tell the panel about their internship experiences. Emory Roth, a current senior, actually got the honor of doing the Ross internship with Allison Schneider.
Roth complimented the internship, saying, “It was wonderful for my development. I recommend it to anyone who has the chance to apply for the Ross internship in New York".
Events like this let students meet industry professionals, learn about possible opportunities, and leave confident about their future endeavors.
