Auburn, Ala – The 33rd annual Beat Bama Food Drive kicks off this Thursday, October 1st, on Haley Concourse. The kickoff will have a dunk tank, snacks, and the organization’s mascot, Canny.
Beat Bama Food Drive (BBFD) serves the food bank of East Alabama and will be collecting nonperishable food items until November 19th, a little over a week before the Iron Bowl.
The competition between Auburn University and The University of Alabama has continued each football season since 1994 to fight food insecurity in East and West Alabama.
Last year, BBFD raised 648,305 pounds of food, beating Alabama's total by nearly 18,000 pounds, with Alabama and Auburn contributing to over 1.2 million pounds raised statewide for those in need.
BBFD will have several events throughout this semester to help raise awareness about food insecurity and collect donations like neighborhood drive, benefit nights, a hunger banquet, and donation centers located around campus.
