Since August 10, First 56 events programming has been in full swing, drawing strong student attendance and fostering a vibrant campus atmosphere. One of these events, Pizza and Popsicles, was hosted by President Roberts at his house on Mell Street and gives first-year students the opportunity to meet academic leadership and experience the Auburn community early on.
Among those in attendance was Evelyn Topazi, a local student and freshman who shared that her proximity to campus and interest in the food selection drew her to the gathering. Topazi rated her overall experience with the event a 10/10. Her main reason for attending was for the food provided, a much-liked plus for first-year students.
Another attendee, student Launne Hart, echoed the positive sentiment regarding the event's atmosphere, while also noting an interest in learning more about the university president's financial tie-ins and institutional tax structure. Both students reported discovering the event through the AU Involve platform.
Dr. Christopher B. Roberts, the university president, expressed strong enthusiasm for the initiative, highlighting its role in introducing students to Auburn's campus culture. When asked about his favorite aspect of the gathering, he cited the opportunity to interact with students directly and observe them building connections. He emphasized how proud he and the broader Auburn community are of the incoming class, adding that hosting students at his home to ensure they feel welcomed remains a highlight of the season.
Although organized specifically by the Division of Student Affairs, the hosted event predates the current presidency. Administrators confirm that the gathering stands as an enduring tradition set to continue for years to come. Ultimately, students and faculty alike enjoyed the opportunity to connect over food and conversation, exemplifying the strong sense of community central to the Auburn experience.
