AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - No. 10 Auburn run ruled Kentucky 11-0 in just seven innings on Sunday at Plainsman Park to close out the series, with starting pitcher Alex Petrovic giving the team a dominant pitching performance.
Auburn’s win marked its 14th in the last 15 regular season home series dating back to the end of the 2024 season, including its eighth SEC home series win during that span.
It was another great outing from Petrovic, who got his first complete game of the season and for the program since Samuel Dutton's seven-inning shutout of Alabama on April 4 in 2025. He struck out eight batters and retired his first 11 in a row without walking a single Kentucky player, while throwing only five hits and ending the day with a record of 6-1 for the season.
As for offense, Auburn had one of its best SEC matchups in terms of scoring, scoring 11 runs and 14 hits. Every Tiger had at least one hit, but the most impactful one belonged to Logan Gregorio, who hit a grand slam in the fifth inning.
Auburn grabbed an early lead after getting a walk, double, and sacrificial fly from Chris Rembert that led to the Tigers scoring a run in the first inning. That lead was extended by two runs thanks to a two-run home run by Bub Terrell.
Petrovic dominated the game in the early innings and was efficient, throwing predominantly strikes, including four strikeouts of the first six batters he faced.
In the third inning, Rembert gave the team an additional run with another RBI, his second of the day. He ended the day with two RBIs. Meanwhile, the bottom of the fourth inning was controlled by Petrovic, who managed to keep Kentucky batters scoreless despite two hits by Wildcat batters.
Auburn performed strongly at the plate in the fifth inning, scoring seven runs. Rembert recorded his third RBI, and Eric Guevara scored on a pickoff play. Ethin Bingaman also managed to get another RBI, and then Gregorio came through with a grand slam to walk-off the Wildcats in just the seventh inning.
Auburn’s pitchers gave the Tigers impressive performances not just on Sunday, but for the entire weekend against the Wildcats. Over the course of the series, the Auburn pitching staff struck out 31 batters while walking four en route to the series win.
Auburn will look to close its home stand on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CDT against Alabama State in its final midweek home game of the season.
