Auburn Heart Club hosts Blood Drive

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) – The Heart Club at Auburn University held a successful blood drive, where students, residents and faculty were able to donate blood to help local hospitals around Auburn.

The Heart Club partnered with LifeSouth, a nonprofit community blood bank operational in more than 150 hospitals across Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee. Headquartered in Gainesville, Fla., LifeSouth has a community blood center in Opelika.

“Every donation that people make, it goes to our local hospitals, and we save lives,” said Alai Burns, a phlebotomist working with LifeSouth. She continually emphasized the benefit that the donated blood had, especially locally.

“[You could save] three lives, actually,” said Burns. “It’s always good to help save someone, even if you could just stop by, and try to give,” she continued.

Partnered with the American Heart Association, the Heart Club aims to promote heart health through fundraising and other impactful experiences like the blood drive.
