Auburn beat by Georgia in both games of Saturday doubleheader, is swept in the series

Auburn baseball couldn't pick up a win at Foley Field this weekend, falling all three times and twice during their Saturday doubleheader vs the second ranked Bulldogs.

ATHENS, Ga. (EETV) – Instead of playing on Sunday, Auburn baseball had a change of plans to conclude their series against the second best team in the country, the Georgia Bulldogs, switching to a Saturday doubleheader. Auburn couldn’t find the runs to outpace Georgia’s offense, losing both and being swept by Georgia. The Tigers lost 11-7 in game one before taking Georgia to the 10th inning in game two, but falling 9-6.

Auburn struck first in game one on a Carter Bristol homer over the left-field wall at Foley Field, but the Bulldogs struck back in the fifth inning with six runs of their own off of two RBI singles and an RBI double that bounced over the wall in left. Auburn however, wouldn’t go away that easy.

The Tigers tied it up in the sixth off of a two RBI single by Lucas Steele followed by a three-run bomb off the bat of Chase Fralick. Just when it felt like Auburn had gotten themselves back into the game, the Dawgs shut the door with four runs in the bottom half of the sixth. Georgia’s Christian Adams knocked a three-run shot over the wall in left and an error let in the other. Auburn scored another run later but it was too little too late, as the Tigers fell 11-7.

Game two also began with an Auburn score, as Ike Irish homered in the first to give the Tigers an early advantage. Georgia took the lead in the bottom half off of an RBI walk and a sacrifice fly. Chase Fralick homered for the second time on the day, tying the game at 2-2 in the second inning and then scored a run off of a Bristol Carter sac-fly in the fourth to take the lead back. However, like in game one, Georgia had an answer. This one came in the sixth, as they scored on a sacrifice grounder to tie it up before Kolby Branch notched a single to bring in the go-ahead run.

Auburn fell down 4-3 and couldn’t find the leveler until Ike Irish stepped up in the ninth. He grounded out to second base but Bristol Carter booked it down the line and evened up the scoreboard and sent the game to extras. Chris Rembert singled and Bub Terrell gave Auburn a two-run lead as he blasted the ball deep and over the right-field fence. Once again, Georgia would not be denied, scoring two off a fielder's choice and an error by the Auburn defense, then walking it off as Daniel Jackson took Jett Johnston deep for a three-run walk off bomb, taking down the Tigers 9-6.

After losing both in the doubleheader, Auburn falls to 20-8 on the season and 4-5 in SEC play through three series. The No. 11 ranked Tigers have a chance to get back in winning form as they host UAB on Tuesday at Plainsman Park before the Crimson Tide of Alabama come to town this upcoming weekend for the Iron Bowl of Baseball.
