Sunisa Lee Earns SEC Gymnast of the Week

AUBURN, Alabama. (EETV) - Sunisa Lee was named SEC Gymnast of the Week following a dominant performance against the Georgia Gymdogs. This is the third time the freshman has won the award this year.

Lee swept all title events en route to an all-around title with a score of 39.775. The event sweep marked the first time an Auburn gymnast has done that since Caitlin Atkinson won all events on March 11, 2016. The all-around comes as Lee’s fourth in as many meets competing in the all-around.

Lee began the night on bars scoring a 9.925. The Olympian then moved on to vault where she debuted the Yurchenko 1/2 on front layout, maker her the first gymnast to perform the vault in NCAA competition. The complex vault earned her a 9.925 and her first title in vault.

In the third rotation, Lee tied her career-high with a 9.950 on the floor before she tied her career-high again on the beam scoring a 9.975.

The win marked the second time in program history that the Tigers defeated Georgia in Athens.

Lee and the Tigers will be back in action on Friday when they host the Kentucky Wildcats at home. The meet will start at 6:30 PM CST and will be broadcast on SEC Network.
