Head coach Johnnie Harris talks to the bench while her team huddles on the court

Auburn Women's Basketball stumbles late as they drop their sixth straight game

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Auburn Women’s Basketball fought hard on Sunday but ultimately dropped its sixth straight game in a loss against Alabama, 75-68. The loss moves Auburn to 8-9 on the season and 0-6 in SEC play.

“We’re playing harder, but we’re not finishing… our lack of experience is coming into play right now as we are playing better teams,” said Auburn Women's head coach Johnnie Harris.

Auburn closed the half on an 8-2 run to take a 36-31 lead into halftime. When play returned, Alabama went on a 7-2 run to tie the game at 42. From there the two teams traded baskets until the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Alabama took over. The Tide went on a 12-5 run over the last five minutes of play. In the second half of play, Alabama outscored Auburn 44-32.

“I’m really disappointed in our second half, execution, and mental-toughness down the stretch. I told my team I’ll take credit for this one and I’ll just have to do more to get them prepared,” Harris said.

Defense did not make much of an appearance in the game as both teams shot above 40 percent from the floor. Only one thing truly separated these two sides. The ability to shoot the 3-pointer. Alabama went 7-for-21 from behind the arc. While Auburn shot 2-for-8 from behind the arc.

Alabama’s Brittney Davis went 3-for-7 from behind the arc en route to a 24 point performance. Davis also added eight rebounds and three assists.

Aicha Coulibaly led Auburn in scoring with 19 points. The sophomore was three rebounds away from a double-double on the night as gathered seven rebounds.

Honesty Scott-Grayson added 14 points and three rebounds from the bench.

Auburn has a quick turnaround as they face No. 23 Kentucky on Tuesday, Jan. 25 inside Auburn Arena. Tip off for that game is set for 7 P.M. CST and will air on SEC Network+.
