AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- On Wednesday February 24, Opelika City Council held a ceremony in honor of the grand re-opening of the Covington Recreation Center which was built in 1962. The Center has recently been renovated with a budget of $1.8 million dollars and construction starting back in March of 2020. The newly renovated center is fully equipped with exciting new amenities. Amenities found in the Covington Recreation Center include a gym which contains volleyball and basketball, a community pool with a baby pool for younger children, and a new reception and conference room for different kinds of meetings.

With COVID-19 still affecting daily life the new center has adopted all of the city wide precautions as well as taking measures further to wipe down equipment between uses and practicing social distancing. In addition, the staff are optimistic about holding several day camps, swim lessons, and other summer programs at the center.
