Gobourne Earns SEC Specialist of the Week Honors

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) Despite suffering a loss at the hands of No. 2 LSU on Friday night, the No. 19 Auburn gymnastics team managed to walk away from the meet with a number of reasons to be optimistic going forward. The Tigers broke the 197 mark for the first time since 2019 behind a highlight performance by junior Derrian Gobourne, a display that was worth of SEC Specialist of the week honors.

A native of Sarasota, Fla., Gobourne began her evening in strong fashion, posting a season-best 9.9 on vault and followed the event with a 9.9 on bars, both of which were high enough for the junior to claim two event titles in the meet.

To wrap up what was already an outstanding performance, Gobourne took to the mat where her athleticism would continue to shine. The junior posted a score of 9.975, earning a 10 from one member of the judges panel. The routine earned Gobourne her eight career floor crown.

Gobourne and the rest of the Tigers seek to break their winless streak on Friday, Feb. 12 when the team travels to Columbia, Mo. to take on the No. 28 Tigers. The meet will begin at 8:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on SEC network.
