AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - The Tigers scored two more wins in doubles and three more wins in singles in the Auburn women’s tennis final on Sunday.
The Lady Tigers finished the week with 15 total wins: nine in singles and six in doubles. Auburn won three singles and two doubles matches each day of the three-day event.
“I am proud of our response today,” Auburn head coach Carolina Lilley said. “We challenged the team to rise to a higher standard and they did just that. Out energy and competitiveness was night-and-day compared to yesterday. The tennis will come as we continue to seek solutions instead of being consumed by the challenges.”
Georgie Axon and Adeline Flach in doubles made a perfect 3-0 weekend and defeated LSU’s team in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4). For the first time Carolyn Ansari and Taylor Russo teamed up and had a 6-4 win over LSU.
In singles, Chen downed Nina Geissler, 6-3, 6-2, for her second win over the weekend. Azran had her second win with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over Samantha Buyckx. Russo finished off with a three-set victory, over Eden Richardson 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Ansari lost to LSU’s Paris Corley, 6-4, 6-3, Axon dropped a 6-1, and 6-0 to Safiya Carrington. Flach came up short against Taylor Bridges, 6-4, 6-2.
The Lady Tigers will finish the fall schedule next weekend at the June Stewart Invitational in Nashville, hosted by Vanderbilt
