Governor Ivey announces new amendments to Safer at Home Order

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (EETV) - Governor Ivey has announced new amendments to her Safer at Home Order expanding the list of businesses allowed to re-open. 

The Governor held a press conference this morning, Friday, May 8, updating Alabamians on the state's plans to combat the spread of COVID-19. Ivey announced new amendments to her original Safer at Home Order while also extending the state's public health emergency for another 60 days. 

These new amendments will take effect on May 11th and will allow for restaurants, gyms, salons, and beaches to all re-open however they must maintain strict social distancing guidelines. The new order will also lift the restriction on social gatherings of more than 10 people. This announcement comes as states across have begun reopening this week.
