Auburn defeats LSU in overtime to move into first in the SEC

AUBURN, Ala (EETV)- It’s something about overtime for the Auburn Tigers.

At the end of the second half guard J’Von McCormick saved the day with an assist to Samir Doughty to tie the game and againwith a floater in the final seconds in extended play to defeatLSU 91-90.

Samir Doughty, J'Von McCormick and Devan Cambridge scored a combined total of 70 points to win against LSU.

For the fourth time in the 2019-2020 season Auburn won another game in overtime, and giving up wasn’t an option.

In the beginning of the first half the game was close between both of the Tigers, but LSU’s momentum eventually picked up and led over Auburn 42-30.

LSU’s domination offensively and defensively continued in the second half. They held a lead over Auburn, and for a while it seemed as if they were going to defeat the Tigers.

With less than two minutes left in the second half Auburn was down eight points, but game changers like rebounds and three-pointers were in Auburn’s favor.

The key players that helped Auburn come out on top were Doughty, McCormick and Devan Cambridge. With Danjel Purifoy out with the flu, Cambridge stepped up in his place for the Tigers.

“Devan Cambridge did it again,” said head coach Bruce Pearl.“People are going to start asking questions about when is his role going to change? The answer is when he continues to play like that.”

The three players scored a combined 70 total points for the team. Doughty earned 26, McCormick totaled 23 and Cambridge had 21. According to Andy Burcham on AU radio Auburn has three players with 20 plus points scored since November 2014.

“If you’re going to win a game like that, against a team like that you have to have special. We had a lot of special,” stated Pearl. “This Auburn basketball team is something.”

Auburn is now 21-2 and will try to continue their winning streak in Auburn Arena on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT against rival Alabama. It will be televised on ESPN 2
