Alabama's first dog passes away

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (EETV)- Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey's dog Bear died today according to a statement from the governor's office.

Officials say that the 14 year old chow mix passed following ongoing health issues.

Ivey adopted Bear from a local vet in 2005 after he was hit by a car. Ivey encourages those who would like to honor Bear to volunteer or donate to a local humane society.

Bear recently appeared in a campaign ad with Ivey.
