US drops non-nuclear bomb in Afghanistan

AUBURN, ALA (EETV) - The White House has confirmed that the US military has dropped a bomb on Afghanistan. The bomb is a GBU-43/B Massive Ordance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB) and is also known as the “mother of all bombs.” The MOAB is reported to be 21,600 pounds and is “America’s most powerful non-nuclear bomb” (CNN).

The strike had been in the works for a number of months, with plans dating back to the Obama administration, CBS News correspondent David Martin reports.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer stated in a press conference that, “"The U.S. takes the fight against ISIS very seriously.”

CNN reports that, “This is the first time a MOAB has been used in the battle field,” and that “the target was an ISIS cave” (CNN).

We are currently unsure as to whether anyone has been injured or killed due to the bomb.
