Police have confirmed that the suspect Christopher James Wallace and an unknown woman were unwilling to exit a Wire Road apartment complex and were believed to have perished in standoff with the police.
Wallace a 38 year old man from Eufala shot an Auburn policeman after being stopped at Dollar General on Opelika Road for suspicion of robbery.
The injured officer was sent to East Alabama Medical Center where it is confirmed that he is in stable condition.
Police report that the suspects were traced to Wire Road where they were unwilling to exit. Police shot into the building and used tear gas as well. It is reported that the two were killed when the house went in flames.
Residents of that area were evacuated to the Vet School and will remain there until it is safe. Civilians are encouraged to stay away from both of these areas until authorities have cleared the area.
