Gunshot Reported On Auburn's Campus During Iron Bowl

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - A single gunshot was reported on Auburn’s campus around 4:45 p.m. November 25, as the Iron Bowl was playing just blocks away. The firearm discharge was reported in the 300 block of Mell Street which is close to the College of Agriculture buildings.

According to Capitan Lorenza Dorsey with the Auburn Police Division, police responded to a fight in the area where a single shot was reportedly fired into the air.

Police say two individuals were arrested at the site for disorderly conduct, but officers were unable to identify or apprehend the gunman.

A witness says that the gunman was a white male and fled away from campus before police arrived.

Interim Executive Director of Auburn University Campus Safety and Security Chance Corbett responded by saying, "APD responded to that call and took a report. We were notified and told that there was no on-going threat."

In response to Eagle Eye TV's question as to why an AU Alert was not sent out by the university Corbett responded by writing, "We evaluate each reported incident carefully. We were immediately told by APD there was no threat so that helped us make the decision not to send an alert. If we thought there was a threat to others, an AU ALERT would have been sent immediately likely followed by information to the stadium crowd as well."
