Amnesty Day

City of Auburn to Host Amnesty Days

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Auburn Municipal Court will hold Amnesty Days for those who have an outstanding warrant for their arrest because of a Failure to Appear on Dec. 18-22 from 8 a.m. until noon.

This is an opportunity for individuals to come into compliance with their prior sentence from Auburn Municipal Court without the need to be arrested and post bond.

Individuals qualify for amnesty if they have a pending Failure to Appear warrant for either a) Failure to Appear at an initial hearing on an outstanding traffic citation or misdemeanor or b) Failure to Appear at any subsequent compliance hearing for payment, completion of counseling or other court-ordered requirement.

If individuals appear between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon on the appointed days, they can expect the following:

  • If your Failure to Appear is related to a missed initial hearing or trial, you will NOT be arrested. You will be given a subpoena for a new hearing or trial date.
  • If your Failure to Appear relates to a failure to appear at a compliance hearing following your conviction— such as failure to pay fines and court costs, failure to complete court referral programs for drug or alcohol abuse or failure to complete community service hours—you will NOT be arrested. You will be given the opportunity to sign up for either a payment plan or community service and will be given a new court date.

No one participating in Amnesty Days will be relieved of the duty to pay fines and court costs without special circumstances. No one will be arrested simply for not paying fines or court costs.

Anyone with new charges other than Failure to Appear for which they have not previously been arrested will be subject to arrest.

Auburn Municipal Court encourages those with warrants to take advantage of this opportunity. If you are unsure if you have a Failure to Appear with Auburn Municipal Court, please visit auburnalabama.org/court/amnesty-days for a list of those with open warrants.
