Bruce Pearl on Auburn's win over Norfolk State and the status of his team and the week he has had.

Basketball rebounds to cruise into win column

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Basketball tipped off their regular season against Norfolk State with many uncertainties Friday.

The 'Austin Wiley and Danjel Purifoy-less' Tigers were able to steamroll past the Spartans 102-74.

It was junior guard Bryce Brown for Auburn to put the team on his back to lead the team with 31 points.

"Bryce is strong, athletic, he was able to score through contact at the rim," said head coach Bruce Pearl. "Which, was really good to see."

Brown was money all night from beyond the arc going 4-8.

"Bryce Brown picked up where he left off in Italy," said Pearl. "He was terrific tonight."

The Spartans pulled as close 8 points during the game, but Auburn was able to steadily pull away throughout the game.

Junior forward Horace Spencer aided in the Auburn win finishing the night with 4 points and helping the defense out with 3 blocks.

"Horace and Anferne blocked a bunch of shots and changed a bunch of shots," said Pearl.

There is still no change in status regarding Wiley and Purifoy, who are suspended indefinitely due to the FBI investigation into former Auburn associate head coach Chuck Person.

Despite being held out, Wiley was in attendance on the bench to support his teammates.

Auburn is set to travel to Charleston, South Carolina for the Charleston Classic. They will face Indiana State Nov. 16 in the first round.
