What's Next: Auburn Basketball's Chuck Person

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - As of Monday morning, Auburn Associate Head Coach Chuck Person was listed as a  defendant in a federal bribery case.

Person was a 2 time All-American for Auburn (1985, 1986) and helped lead the Tigers to the elite eight in the 1986 NCAA Tournament.

Person is second on the Auburn all-time leading scorer list with 2,311 points and is fourth on the SEC all-time leading scorer list. Auburn basketball retired his jersey number (45) in 2006.

He was the No. 4 overall pick in the 1986 draft by the Indiana Pacers and bounced around the NBA, finishing his career with the Seattle Sonics in 2000.

After a hiatus from Auburn, Person returned to his alma mater in 2014 to be the associate head coach under current coach Bruce Pearl.

Person helped coach Auburn to an 18-14 record last season, Auburn's first winning season since 2008-2009. He also helped lead Auburn past Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Arkansas in 2015-2016, a first since the 1967-68 season.

Person has also played a leading roll in recruiting for the Tigers, helping Auburn land the three best recruiting classes in program history (2015, 2016, 2017).

Auburn men's basketball season tips off on Nov. 2 against Barry, and the team is holding a pro day on Oct. 11.

With the season looming, the charges against Person leave the team with an unknown in their coaching staff for the season.

We have reached out to athletics in regards to the story but have yet to receive a response.
