Attorney General Steve Marshall joins other state officials in supporting new school safety program

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (EETV)- Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has endorsed Gov. Kay Ivey's new school safety proposal. The proposal, called the Alabama Sentry Program, allows specially trained school administrators to be armed in order to prevent potential school shooting treats. “I share Governor Ivey’s concerns that every effort be made to ensure that all Alabama’s schools have the ability to protect our children by quickly responding to threats to their safety,” said Marshall.

Longtime Auburn Mayor Bill Ham not seeking reelection

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Longtime Auburn Mayor Bill Ham formally announced Monday during a Memorial Day breakfast that he would not seek reelection. Ham was first elected in 1998 and during that time has overseen a period of immense population and economic growth in the city. Ham has traditionally been a familiar face on Auburn University's campus throughout the years, having traditionally participated in events hosted by various campus organizations.  The next Auburn municipal election is scheduled for August 28.

Republicans nationwide starting to close midterm polling gap ahead of Alabama’s primary

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Voters in many states across the nation are getting ready to head to the polls to see who will represent them during this year’s highly contested midterm election. The midterm election, which usually has low voter turnout, is traditionally seen as a referendum on the party that controls the White House. Much of the discussion over the past few months has been whether or not Democrats will muster enough support to retake the House of Representatives, a branch of government they have not controlled since 2010. Given the large number of Democratic incumbents up for reelection in traditionally Republican states, many pundits see little chance of Democrats regaining control of the Senate. Recent polls suggest that generic support for Republican candidates has grown.

Alabama joins lawsuit targeting DACA program

State leaders visiting Japan this week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (EETV) – Governor Kay Ivey this week is leading a small team of Alabama economic development specialists on a business development mission to Japan for high-level meetings with executives of global automakers Toyota, Mazda and Honda.
