The company stunned employers and city officials on June 12 by announcing its closure because of ‘market conditions and changes in consumer taste.’ Auburn City officials announced their efforts to assist in placing the 445 affected employees in jobs. “It’s great to see the entire community coming together in this critical time for those who lost their jobs this week,” said Cary Cox, the City of Auburn’s workforce development director.
Tuskegee, Ala. -- Former Tuskegee police lieutenant Alex Hunley, was convicted for his role in the beating of a compliant, handcuffed arrestee and a cover-up of the incident in 2014. According to evidence presented at the trial, Huntley arrested a man who scuffled with police near the Tuskegee town square and directed a fellow police officer to transport him back to the Tuskegee Police Department for booking.
Auburn, Ala. — MasterPlan Cabinets announced a sudden closure of its Auburn plant, located at 300 Webster Road, laying off 445 employees. The company, which opened its Auburn Plant in 1999, announced the closure unexpectedly to employees at about 10 a.m.
Franklin County, Ala. -- A judge sentenced former Franklin County Administrator, Crista Madden, to two 20-year sentences for violating the Alabama ethics law for an unlawful gain of $753,889 in county funds. Madden pleaded guilty in March in two counts of felony ethics violations: misuse of her official position for personal gain and use of public equipment for personal gain.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (EETV)- Several Alabama leaders are reacting positively to a landmark decision on religious liberty released today by the United States Supreme Court in the Masterpiece Cakeshop v Colorado Civil Rights Commission case. The case centers around a Colorado-based Christian baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple due to personal religious grounds. All five conservative justices and two of the court’s traditionally liberal justices sided with the Christian cake shop owner. The case was seen as a test to whether state anti discrimination laws supersede personal religious liberty rights. Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall released a statement saying, “The Supreme Court’s 7-2 decision in Masterpiece Cakeshop v Colorado Civil Rights Commission is major a victory for the First Amendment right of religious expression in America.” Congressman Mike Rogers, who represents the Auburn area, also released a statement saying, “After years of going down a path that seemed to forget our core values, today marks a turn in the tide as religious liberties prevailed.”

The proposal, called the Alabama Sentry Program, allows specially trained school administrators to be armed in order to prevent potential school shooting treats. “I share Governor Ivey’s concerns that every effort be made to ensure that all Alabama’s schools have the ability to protect our children by quickly responding to threats to their safety,” said Marshall.

Kay Ivey announced in a press conference Wednesday, May 30, that she will be beginning the Alabama Sentry Program, which will provide additional security precautions to schools that lack a School Resource Officer (SRO). The Alabama Sentry Program allows volunteer administrators in schools without School Resource Officers to keep a firearm on campus in a secure location in case of an active shooter situation.

The new assessment is called S.C.O.R.E which stands for Student Core Outcomes and Readiness Evaluation.
AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Longtime Auburn Mayor Bill Ham formally announced Monday during a Memorial Day breakfast that he would not seek reelection. Ham was first elected in 1998 and during that time has overseen a period of immense population and economic growth in the city. Ham has traditionally been a familiar face on Auburn University's campus throughout the years, having traditionally participated in events hosted by various campus organizations. The next Auburn municipal election is scheduled for August 28.
