Auburn's quarterback battle heats up, while the receivers shine in the team's annual A-Day game.

Auburn Spring Game: A Look into the Quarterback Battle

Auburn, Ala (EETV) - Auburn fans packed Jordan-Hare Saturday afternoon to watch the Auburn Football spring game. This years A-Day had around 40,000 fans, all excited to see their Auburn Tigers.

All A-Day games are exciting, but this one was particularly fun because of the intense four man quarterback battle. After last season's star QB Jarrett Stidham left for the NFL, the Tigers are looking for a new starting quarterback, and the competition is strong.

The battle consists of redshirts Joey Gatewood and Cord Sandberg, mid-year enrollee Bo Nix, and junior Malik Willis, who all desperately want the job to replace two-year starter Stidham.

Of the four quarterbacks, Bo Nix had the most passing yards of the day, with 155. Joey Gatewood was close behind with 123 yards.

When asked about the battle, Head Coach Gus Malzahn said, "all four quarterbacks played well...next week we will assess all 15 days of practice. We would like some sort of quarterback plan before summer, so the guys can settle into things."

Many players also had the same response as Noah Igbinoghene said, "As of now, no single guy is sticking out, it will be interesting to see who gets the job."

Aside from the quarterback battle, there were many other exciting things to come from A-Day. The MVPs of the game were: wide receiver Seth Williams, kicker Anders Carlson, and defensive tackle Derrick Brown. Brown had two sacks and four tackles.

Another position to keep your eye on is wide receiver. With Will Hastings recovering, Seth Williams on fire scoring two touchdowns in the A-Day game, and Eli Stove back in action scoring a touchdown as well, the Tiger offense is looking strong after 15 days of spring practice.

The Auburn Tigers will kick off their 2019 football season on August 31 as they face Oregon at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The first home game will be Saturday September 7 against Tulane.
