Reactions from Auburn President, SGA President and students to Sunday's fatal shooting

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Reactions are starting to pour in following the fatal shooting early Sunday morning in the 200 block of West Magnolia Avenue.

“We’re saddened by the senseless events that unfolded early this morning on West Magnolia Avenue," said Auburn University President Steven Leath in a statement to Eagle Eye TV. "Our thoughts and prayers are with those impacted."

Leath emphasized that university officials are working with local law enforcement. "We’re always focused on the safety of our campus community, and we’re working closely with law enforcement officials as they conduct this investigation”

Auburn's Student Government Association President Dane Block also reacted to the news writing in a statement to Eagle Eye TV, "above all else, our condolences go out to the families involved in the incident. However, we are grateful for Auburn's Campus Safety and Security for keeping the student body and community aware and informed."

Block added that the safety of students is a "priority" for SGA and that the organization, "will continue to seek every opportunity to stimulate a safe environment," for Auburn students.

Students say that they still view Auburn as a safe place, but some encourage officials to add additional patrols in the area.

"I still feel relatively safe," said Auburn student Shelby Kreuzer, "because I know that this kinda stuff has happened on many other campuses and we're pretty aware."

Auburn Police are still investigating the shooting and expect arrests to be made soon. Police encourage anyone with information to call the Auburn Police Division at 334-501-3140 or their tip line at 334-246-1391.
