AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Auburn Police are investigating an early morning traffic accident.
Police and Fire personnel responded Tuesday around 7:00 am to a single vehicle accident involving a 2004 Honda CB600 motorcycle in the 300 block of West Veterans Boulevard.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the driver, David Avery Smotherman, from Opelika, lost control of the motorcycle, crossed into the opposing lane, left the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Officials say that Smotherman was pronounced dead on the scene by Lee County Chief Deputy Coroner Gene Manning.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Division.
