Student Act renovation and new parking deck on the docket for Friday's Auburn Board of Trustee meeting

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Several facilities improvements are set to be on the docket at the Auburn University Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for Friday.

According to the released agenda, board members will be looking to approve six new facility projects including several athletic facility improvements, the renovation of the Student Activities Center and a new parking deck on South College Street near the Auburn University Hotel and Conference Center.

The planned Student Activities Center renovation will turn the existing facility into a suitable space for what the document describes as “events that are too large for the Student Center yet too small for the Auburn Arena.”

The roughly $7 million renovation effort, which has long been pushed by Auburn’s SGA, would be funded by a combination of University general funds, Student Government Association funds and Facilities Management Repair and Renovation funds.

The proposed South College Street parking deck, which Eagle Eye TV first reported on back in March, would consist of roughly 575 spaces on five levels. The deck would be for staff, students, hotel guests, support faculty, and visitors of the planned Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center.

Parking Services Director Don Andre told Eagle Eye TV at the time that gates - similar to the ones used in the City of Auburn’s downtown parking deck - could be used in the new deck.

The deck is expected to cost about $13.2 million and is going to be funded by the University’s general fund.

Other scheduled board actions include lease modifications to several campus fraternity houses and a proposed athletic fee for Auburn University Montgomery students.
